On December 4, 2020, the Calvert Journal published its list of top 10 Eastern European Books of 2020, among which is Nana Ekvtimishvili's novel "The Pear Field," first published in 2015 by Bakur Sulakauri Publishing. Nana Ekvtimishvili is a prominent Georgian director ("In Bloom", "My Happy Family") and the book was her literary debut.

The novel tells us a story about one boarding school and the lives of its residents - children with disabilities and abandoned children. The novel takes place in the outskirts of Tbilisi during the 90s - an especially turbulent period in Georgia's recent history, characterized not only by newly attained independence, but also by significant traumas for Georgians. As the author herself describes in an interview given to the Calvert Journal, the novel's theme is equally personal, as she lived next to this school. "So I wanted to let readers into this world, to stay next to these people, as opposed to being above them."

The Calvert Journal was founded in 2013 and represents a project of Calvert 22 Foundation, a London-based nonprofit organization, according to the description, it focuses on the contemporary culture and creativity of 29 countries of the New East (post-communist countries of Eastern Europe). Today, the Calvert Journal is one of the leading publications for culture, innovation, photography and travel in the New East.

In 2016 "The Pearl Field" received the most prestigious Georgian literary award - Saba - for "Debut of the Year." Currently, the novel is translated into English, German, Dutch and Azerbaijani languages.
