It is said that we are entering a throw-away society, which means that people these days tend to throw away old things and buy new ones. There are a few factors behind this phenomenon.
First of all, the main reason for the trend is the increasingly improved standard of living. Unlike the generation of their parents and grandparents, people nowadays have the financial capacity to replace old things if they think these things are worn-out. The higher income allows people to enjoy more freedom in pursuing new products, with little regard for the prices. Meanwhile, the productivity is also enhanced due to technical innovation, leading to the constant upgrading of various goods and lower prices. That is why people have the desire and ability to buy new thing.
Apart from economic and technical reasons, other factors include peoples' lack of awareness of mental protection and their tendency of following the fashion.For example, some people use disposable products for convenience every day paying little attention to the impact on the environment. Also, some people compete over material things and they squander their money on clothes, shoes, cosmetics, etc.
This throw-away" lifestyle, to some extent, stimulates consumption and increases the sales of consumer goods. However, its negative consequences are also obvious. Because of the increasing demand for new products, the consumption materials went up year by year, which gave rise to severe shortage of energy and resources. Also, the disposal of wastes is a troublesome task and these wastes often cause pollution to air, water and soil, deteriorating the environment of our planet.
To sum up, despite the improvement of our living conditions,throwing old things away should be discouraged and it is everyone s responsibility to protect the environment.
