Preface

写在前面：对于HOW TO READ A BOOK 这种大学期间几乎所有崇敬的老师们都推荐的重要工具书，看着kindle里躺了三年的电子档，终于抓住大四的尾巴在亚马逊上购入了纸质版，希望能一点点安安静静的读懂这一本书，恩。

HOW TO READ A BOOK
作者在此表明了重新编写出版的众多原因

1. changes that have taken place(可以说是一些好的变化吧)
   -in our society(在过去三十年)
   -in the subject itself
   这里列举了很多详细的例子：
   a. many people become literate
   b. interest: fiction--->nonfiction
   c. education on reading

2. things not changed

现状	national fad-speed-reading	most efforts are spent on reading instrction in the first 6 grades
实际需求	different things---> different appropriate speed	carry instruction in reading beyond the elementary level(最重要)

3. motive:
   -small part: responding to greater need for the book
   -main part: many things not treated adequately or not treated at all in the book called for thorough rewriting
