Remain

Remain: to continue to be in the same state or condition

例句:

1) Mooncakes remain an essential part of Mid-autumn Festival.

2) The fate of the injured remains unclear.

If it were Mr Ma of Alibaba, its shares would fall. If it were Mr Ma of Tencent, they would remain unchanged. And if it were Mr Li of Baidu, they would rise.

二、“remain“后也可以接名词,比如常见的有 a secret, an enigma:

3) Whether the actor killed himself or was murdered remains a secret.

It remains unknown whether the actor killed himself or was murdered.

Mid-Autumn Festival remains one of the most favorite festivals celebrated/observed national holidays in China.(自己没有把“庆祝”翻译出来,因为不知道celebrate的过去分词还有这用法,参考翻译用national holiday点出中秋节的在中国的地位也避免了重复用词。)

Mid-autumn Festival remains one of the most celebrated/observed national holidays in China.

场景:A Lady Vanishes

Fan Bingbing, an A-list Chinese star, has disappeared, which has sparked wild speculation about her fate. However, whether she has been detained or not remains unclear.

He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

Seize the moment of excited curiosity on any subject to solve your doubts; for if you let it pass, the desire may never return, and you may remain in ignorance.

                        US politician (1772-1834)
