Long Poetry Style

青青园中葵，

朝露待日晞。

There are green vegetables in the garden,

Where morning dew has not dried before sunrise.

阳春布德泽，

万物生光辉。

Spring rains and sunshine quicken the earth ,

And all things grow brilliantly.

常恐秋节至，

焜黄华叶衰。

The fear of bleak autumn’s arrival is common,

When flowers wither and leaves turn yellow.

百川东到海，

何时复西归。

All rivers flow east into the sea,

And they’ll never come back west.

少壮不努力，

老大徒伤悲。

If you don't strive in the prime of life,

You’ll regret vainly when you’re elderly.

【注释】

1)长歌行(xíng):汉乐府曲调名。

2)葵：冬葵，又名冬寒菜，古代的一种蔬菜，可入药。

3)晞：天亮，晒干。

4)阳春：温暖的春天。

5)布：布施，给予。

6)德泽：恩惠。

7)秋节：秋季。

8)焜(kūn)黄：形容草木凋落枯黄的样子。

9)华：同“花”。

10)衰：枯萎，凋谢。为了押韵，可按古音作"cuī"。

11)徒：白白的

12)百川：河流。

【韵译】

青青葵菜满园生，

朝阳未出露晶莹。

春光明媚苏大地，

万物繁荣现生机。

常忧萧瑟秋风疾，

花落叶黄景色凄。

江河东流奔大海，

何时回返向西流？

青春不知勤努力，

老迈无成悲枉然。
