"The Woman Warrior" (读书笔记)

Qin liyan’s article “The nightmarish and fantastic China in the women warrior” points out in many ways to tell the reader, why Maxine Hong Kingston’s story has so many surface-level uninformed culture background about China. Because people from different cultures have different perspectives,Maxine Hong Kingston is an American born Chinese, her eyes look through from her mother’s story, she gets her education from the American education system. That’s why Qin Liyan and Maxine Hong Kingston have different way they see the Chinese history and culture.

The Woman Warrior her story publishes by year 1976, in that time American have cold war with China and Soviet Union. In fact, from year 1949 China change the system to a socialist country, and this system treats women very well; all the policy grants equal rights to women. The country is developing as well. Suddenly for political reason, China a social country, and American a capitalist country. In that period, two countries close doors for each other’s peoples. That’s the reason American born Chinese writer Maxine Hong Kingston may not know all the information about China. Qin Liyan’s article list all the facts for reader, compares American born Chinese and Liyan’s own Chinese perspectives to discuss what is different. One story cannot capture China’s whole history; therefore, it is important that readers are educated, that writers are informed, and that readers can be critical to avoid misunderstandings across cultural boundaries. I know I am not very good at Chinese history, but from this story I totally agree with Qin Liyan’s argument about Kingston’s for misreading of China’s rich history and culture.
