Savory side dishes
Mashed potatoes also appear on most Thanksgiving tables. These delicious potatoes are boiled and then beaten until light and fluffy. Milk and butter are added, giving the potatoes their delightful creamy flavor. The potatoes can be eaten alone or smothered in a hearty turkey gravy. Either way, the dish melts in your mouth and warms your heart.
Native North American vegetables also have a special place on the Thanksgiving table. Green beans are perhaps most common. They can be eaten plain or cooked in a tasty casserole.
My favorite Thanksgiving dish—the thing I hunger for most in November—has to be candied yams. Baked with honey and cinnamon, these juicy sweet potatoes ooze with sweet goodness. Their wholesome flavor is the essence of all that Thanksgiving represents.
Of course, no Thanksgiving feast is complete without pumpkin pie. Spiced with nutmeg and cinnamon, this traditional dessert is rich with subtle, festive flavors.
Thanksgiving dinner always leaves me feeling deeply satisfied. The only bad thing about this meal is I have to wait another whole year to enjoy it again!
