If you dispute a fact, statement, or theory, you say that it is incorrect or untrue.

3. verb

When people dispute something, they fight for control or ownership of it. You can also say that one group of people dispute something with another group.

3.arbiter

1. countable noun

An arbiter is a person or institution that judges and settles a quarrel between two other people or groups.

2. countable noun

An arbiter of taste or style is someone who has a lot of influence in deciding what is fashionable or socially desirable.

3.referendum

countable noun

If a country holds a referendum on a particular policy, they ask the people to vote on the policy and show whether or not they agree with it.

Opprobrium is open criticism or disapproval of something that someone has done.

1. This week the government published two new papers that concern the court: one

on civil-justice co-operation and the other on dispute resolution.
